Images from Albury

Cal competing in his heat of the 400m.

The three wise monkeys.

No, Dave and Lach are not inspecting the grass. They are trying to recover after running very hard 400m heats.

Albury Gift

A very warm day in Albury with shade at an absolute premium.

Lach and Cal both acquitted themselves well in the heats of their events. Lach - 120m and 400m and Cal 70m and 400m. Neither progressed into any of the finals.

However it was a big day for GSC with Pamela making the final of the Women's 300m, Kevin winning the back markers 120m invitational and Shane winning the prestigious Albury Gift. The coach was very proud of his charges and it was a real shot in the arm in terms of team morale.

Wang Wrap

Lach and Cal both ran well in their respective heats of the 400m open. Lach finished 4th or 5th. Cal continued his good form charging to the lead. Unfortunately he was dipped out on the line and failed to make the final on times.

Anna wins Broo 400m women's final

Anna had a great win in her hometown event. It was a long time goal of Anna's to add a Wang sash to her trophy cabinet. She won her heat convincingly and then followed up with a very strong win in the final. Great win Anna! The kids were very pleased with their mum's win.

Warming up for the 400m

Lach warming up for the Wang 400m. An unusual technique but the proof of the pudding will be in the eating. Will he make the final?

Wangaratta Gift

Beautiful conditions for runners today in Wang. Sunny and very warm but not too hot. A nice breeze has blown up this arvo making it even more pleasant.

Cal ran second in his heat of the 70m but missed out on semi finals.

Lach ran third in his heat of the 120m gift, which was run in the fastest time. But unfortunately with them only taking six fastest he just missed out on a second run in the semis.

Cal is in the pink in photo one and Lach blue in the second photo.

Ringwood Gift

Another nice hot dry day at Ringwood.

Cal ran in the 70m, winning his heat to make the semi finals where he finished 4th.

Lach and Cal both ran in the 400m. Cal ran in Heat 3. He ran a super race, probably one of the most competitive and aggressive races we have seen him run. He finished 3rd which unfortunately won't give him a run in the final. Lach ran well in a very, very hot sub 46 heat.  He finished in the pack and also won't progress. The gift was eventually won by Jay Blake. Jay is having a great season. He also won the 400m at Rye last weekend.

The highlight of the day was the win in the 70m of fellow GSC runner Pamela Austin. In a very tightly contested race Pamela held on to win.

The funniest thing was the misprint in the program with Cal being listed as Calvin Taylor. What a hoot?

Rye postcript

In the end Lach decided to run in the 400m. He ran well and was pleased with how he performed.

Steph and Anna both made the final of the women's 400m after winning their respective heats. Steph finished third and Anna just out of the places.

Rye - The Update

Both boys competed in the 70m and 120m gift. Neither ran particularly well as they are both very sore. Currently they are sitting in the tent nursing injuries - ice packs applied. Running in the 400m later in the day is not an option as they can't afford to tear hamstrings at this stage of the season. Off to the physio for both this week!!!

Rye Gift

The boys are off to compete in the 70m. Weather overcast but warm. The sun is trying hard to break through. Very little wind. Should be a great day of racing. It is great to hear Cartha on the microphone today. He only does a couple of meets a year now and this is one.

Burnie wrap up

Cal ran well in the 400m final. The race was won by Launceston runner Brodie Robinson. Cal fought on well but finished towards the back of the field.

Steph also ran very well finishing a very close second in her 400m final. The event was won by Suz Sinclair.

In other results -
Burnie Gift for women was won by Morgan Gaffney (Tasmanian national champion).
Burnie Gift for men was won by Jarrod Despard in 12.70. Jarrod is the first Tasmanian male to win the gift since 2005. He is only 16 years of age.
Burnie Wheel for women was won by Annette Edmonson.
Burnie Wheel for men was won by Glen O'Shea. O'Shea rewrote history being the first cyclist to ever win all four major wheel races in the carnival series.

400m update

Cal cruised to victory in his heat of the 400m in a time of 48.83. The other heat was won in a time of 47.79 so Cal will need to find some time in the final but as he wasn't stretched I think he has plenty up his sleeve.

Go naughty Cal!!!

Steph ran really well to win her heat of the 400m. Two contenders in the 400m. Bring it on.

Lach didn't run in the 400m.

OMG!

I didn't think it was possible but the wind is getting stronger. It also seems to have changed position slightly and is now blowing across the ground. The runners will have trouble staying in their lanes.

Gotta love Burnie weather!!!

Burnie Gift semi finals

Semi 1 - 13.25
Zeed, M Hargreaves and Howe

Semi 2 - 13.10
Despard, Jakeman and Taylor

Semi 3 - 13.49

Lach ran really well in the fastest semi but was just beaten into third place by the fast finishing Jakeman.

Should be a great final tonight.

Cal will run in the 400m later today.

All these runners will compete in the semi finals at 3.00. Lach's heat was the fastest. Matt Hargreaves and Adrian Mott both looked very impressive in their wins. First two in each semi go through to the final.

Photo is of the start of Lach's heat. He is the runner in pink.

Welcome to Burnie

Warm, overcast and blowing an absolute gale!!! The sprinters are running straight into the wind. Times will be slow.

Cal ran in Heat 1 of 90m handicap and finished third. Lach ran in Heat 3 and finished fourth. They only took winner and one fastest so neither progressed to final.
